Raya and the Last Dragon is now streaming on Disney+ and it’s a great family movie. Raya and the Last Dragon is about a young girl named Raya who is on a quest to stop the Druun who destroyed her land by petrifying the people. Dragons who were part of the prosperous land of Kumandra tried to keep the people safe but was overtaken by the Druun. There was only one dragon, Sisu as the last dragon to help mankind with a gem that holds all the dragons’ special powers. After Sisu cleared the Druun, Sisu was presumed lost. The gem ended up dividing the land. 500 years later, we find Raya, voiced by actress Kelly Marie Tran, practicing being the protector of the gem with her father, Chief Benja voiced by Daniel Dae Kim. All Chief Benja wants is for the land of Kumandra to be as one instead of divided. Jealousy, stubbornness, envy and distrust keep the lands separate but not equal and later we find that not working together comes at a cost.

This movie really highlights trust. Trust and family are major themes in the movie. Raya learns about trust on her excursions across the five lands. Not only does she find the last dragon Sisu voiced by actress Awkafina, but Raya makes new friends along the way. They all lost someone that they loved and, in the end, its trust that gets them back.
Raya and the Last Dragon is visually stunning, and I really enjoyed the fight scenes. This movie is great for all ages unless you don’t want the kids exposed to violence. We adults can relate to the themes in this movie. The story and the visuals are well worth your time to watch Raya and the Last Dragon.
