Black Adam starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson plays the new anti- hero in the DC Universe. Black Adam is a non- stop action. Once Adrianna (Sarah Shahi) who is like the Indian Jones character finds the ancient crown of Sabbac and keeps it safe from the bad guys, she releases Black Adam who has been in an otherworldly prison for help. Once released, Black Adam causes havoc and chaos for the Intergang who want the crown to rule the world. This comes to the attention of Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), who calls on The Justice Society of America (JSA) to stop Black Adam before he causes damage. The members of the JSA are Carter Hall/Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Kent Nelson/Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Maxine Hunkel/Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell) and Albert Al Rothstein/Atom Smasher (Noah Cintineo).

Black Adam is non- stop fun. Dwayne Johnson did a respectable job with his labor of love, Black Adam. He’s more violent than the average superhero but Johnson’s appeal made it great. I didn’t mind an anti-hero that kills the bad guys first and asks questions later. The eventual evolution of Black Adam of this violent thought process is fun to see. He has a heart and feelings because he had a family in his prior life before he received his powers and the pain of losing them made him hard. Adriana and Amon gave him his heart back. The back and forth between Black Adam and Hawkman was cute and gave little brother, big brother vibes. If there is a sequel, you know that Adrianna and Amon will be a part of it. I hope they keep Karim, Adrianna’s brother because he was great as the comic relief. Cyclone and Atom Smasher, although great characters, were secondary in this movie, Doctor Fate was the heart and consciousness of the movie. His relationship with Hawkman was like Father and Son. He also took on a mentor role for Black Adam.
Black Adam, although it has its flaws, the action, comedy, and Dwayne Johnson really carried the movie and made it enjoyable. Pierce Brosnan was a perfect choice for Doctor Fate. Pierce is a legend and he really connected with the characters and the audience. Most of the secondary characters like Adrianna and Amon were strong and helped carry the story. Of course, I must mention the stinger at the end. It’s an interesting choice and I'm looking forward to seeing where DC is going with this. Black Adam was a fun time, and I would like to see it again.
