Tyler Perry’s latest movie is called Divorce in Black. The film stars Megan Good as Ava married to Dallas (Cory Hardrict). I must admit I saw some of the reactions on social media and it was mixed, which tends to happen with Tyler Perry movies. Now. I will say this movie did start with a shocking scene that kept me seated. I was prepared to start shaking my head but to my surprise, I wanted to see how it would end, knowing that these movies follow all the Tyler Perry movies. It had a bad black man, the abused wife who had enough, and the return of the high school friend who always had a crush on the wife but is a good man.

If you’re a Tyler Perry fan, you will enjoy this movie and be satisfied with the predictable but entertaining end. The script has nothing original, but the cast was good, and this is what usually saves his movies. The standouts are the stars Megan Good and Cory Hardrict. It was fun watching Cory Hardrict be mean when you know in real life, he seems to be the sweetest person. I could watch Megan in anything, you felt her pain, disappointment, and strength as she went through her divorce from Dallas, Cory shows how when you live with abuse, you in turn abuse. Dallas said he wanted to be better than his father, but at that moment, he realized he was just like him.
Tyler likes to teach lessons without the audience realizing that he is doing it. Ava realizes she is loved by her parents, Gina (Debbi Morgan) and Clarence (Richard Lawson) who realize they should have told their daughter how proud and loved Ava is, whereas, with Dallas, his mom Linda (Ursula O Robinson) and his brothers Keith (Rakeem Laws), Morris (Berry Williams) and Troy (Jeffrey Creightney) who all have either been abused or abused others.
One of the plot holes that irritated me was when things happened at the bank, there was no security. Anyway, I watched this movie all the way through, and I was entertained, I expected the ending, but I did enjoy watching that scene with Cory and Megan. The whole cast did well and that’s what helped elevate this weak script. I loved seeing Debbi Morgan and Richard Lawson.
Tyler Perry made a great decision to put this on streaming because this is a Friday, Saturday evening at-home movie. I give this “It’s okay to watch”.
This is definitely on my watch list can't wait to check it out.
