Black Widow: So Worth the Wait!

Source: Marvel.com

Black Widow was supposed to be released last year but with the pandemic of 2020, Marvel released it this year when the movie theaters opened back up. You can see Black Widow in theaters and on Disney+ Premium Access. We follow Natasha Romanoff played by Scarlett Johansson and her little sister Yelena Belova played by Florence Pugh when they were young girls played by Ever Anderson (Young Natasha) and Violet McGraw (Young Yelena) and raised by Alexi Shostakov/Red Skeleton played by David Harbour and Melina Vostokoff/Black Widow played by Rachel Weisz and we see how the girls are taken to the Red Room. We jump 21 years, where we see a familiar face, Thaddeus Ross, played by William Hurt looking for Natasha. Remember this movie takes place between Civil War and Infinity Wars.

One character that I want to learn more about is Rick Mason, played by O-T Fagbenle who can find Natasha everything she needs. I need to know his background and how does he get these things like passports, helicopters and yes, the Quinn jet. We learn a lot about how Natasha was chosen and what her function in the Black Widow program was to be. We also learn that there is more than one Black Widow in the Red Room program. We jump 21 years and when Natasha and Yelena reunite that there is still sisterly love. I will say that Florence Pugh and Scarlett Johansson have great chemistry and you really feel the love they have one another.

The Red Room run by the evil General Dreykov played by Ray Winstone, takes young girls, willingly or unwillingly, mind controlling them to be super assassins, so he can control the world. Dreykov, if you really think about it doesn’t respect women but just uses them as weapons. Task Master is a formidable opponent. The fight scenes between Task Master and Natasha are reminiscent with the Winter Soldier.

Marvel’s Black Widow was well worth the wait. The action, the story and the after-credit scene, all made the movie seem fresh, exciting and a must see in the Marvel Universe. David Harbour and Florence Pugh manage to bring humor into the movie without taking us out of the story. The humor brings realism to family and how they talk to one another when they haven’t seen each other in a while.

Black Widow was supposed to kick off Phase 4 but due to the pandemic, Phase 4 started with WandaVision, Falcon and the Winter Soldier and recently LOKI to hold us until the arrival of Black Widow. Yes, we know Natalie’s fate which makes the end even more sad. At least Natalie knew she had two families, which stays on theme of this movie.

Did you catch the post credit scene? Did your mouth drop like mine did? Let’s Discuss.
