Gunpowder Milkshake is a fun and dark assassin tale from Netflix. This is a cool assassin tale reminiscent of Kill Bill. We follow Eva played by Karen Gillan as she is raised as an assassin because her mom Scarlet played by Lena Headey left her when she was a teenager. She left her child to be raised by Madeline played by Carla Gugino, Florence played by Michelle Yeoh and Anna May played by Angela Bassett (its funny that her name is Anna May in this movie since she played Tina Turner whose real name is Annie Mae). Eva ends up working for the Firm who is guided by Nathan played by Paul Giamatti. Eva goes on assignment that goes horribly wrong and as the series of events ensue Eva ends up befriending an eight-year-old named Emily played by Chloe Coleman.
Gunpowder Milkshake is really a movie about Eva trying to find out who she really is and that she is has more empathy for humanity than most assassins. The movie ‘s pace is good but the middle to the end is where the action really picks up the pace. The stunt choreography is incredibly good especially in the library scene where you see the action from different perspectives. The slow motion in the final fight scene wasn’t needed but I guess it was used to emphasize the fight.
This is a strong woman led movie that shows and highlights that at the end of the day family is what you make it. There have been female assassin movies before like Atomic Blond, Columbiana and the Kill Bill series but they usually act alone. In this case, Eva begins by acting alone but by the movies end she finds that she has back up. Gunpowder Milkshake is an entertaining movie with a ton of star power in it and is now streaming on Netflix.
