This show is fun and quirky but deals with serious issues that young women may confront in college. Learning about their own sexuality and how to deal with men. How to manage themselves at parties and how to manage real life issues and crisis that can affect their college life. The girls are Kimberly (Pauline Chalamet) who comes from a small town, who doesn’t have much life experiences and is learning fast about all diverse types of people. Bela (Amrit Kaur) who is Indian American, her goal is to become a sex positive comedy writer and learns through her journey that it won’t be as easy as she planned it out to be. Leighton (Renee Rapp) is an affluent legacy student from the big city of New York. She learns quickly that the way she ran things in New York, are not the same in Essex. Leighton has a brother, Nico (Gavin Leatherwood), who is older, and tries to help her adjust not knowing that his sister is hiding who she really is. Lastly, we have Whitney (Alyah Chanelle Scott) whose is soccer star from Seattle who we learn has a secret relationship with her soccer coach and is the daughter of US Senator (Sherri Shephard).
This show is very well- written and produced by Mindy Kaling. We go from questioning if they will all get along to in the end, the girls have formed a sisterhood. These young ladies each go through their own crisis but rely on each other to talk it out and have someone to turn to when trying to figure things out. We laugh and cry with these girls as they get themselves into precarious situations and how they plot and plan to help each other out of it. The season ends with each of them having to deal with the decisions they made at the beginning of the season coming back around. The Sex Lives of College Girls is not just about their sex lives but about learning about life and the consequences of their actions. It was a great season and I’m looking forward to season 2.
