The State of the Movie Theatre

Movie Theatres took a huge hit during COVID which is not a secret. Most people have been used to having their entertainment in their homes, so why go to a theatre? As I have mentioned before in my prior blog, “Living in a post covid entertainment world” movie theatres are back open and most importantly, safe! Here is my experience in more detail about going to a movie theatre.

I’ve gone to a Cinemark Theatre three times over the past two months and I felt safe, and the theater was clean. You must purchase tickets ahead of time. I would suggest downloading the app (All theaters like AMC and Regal also have apps) so you can earn points for free concession food (who doesn’t want that?) amongst other discounts and prizes. On the app, you can choose where you want to sit and there is no one next to you. Once you arrive, there are ticket kiosks, or you can go to the box office to get your tickets printed where it can be scanned on your phone.

Now, at the time of writing this blog, movie theaters can only be at 25% capacity, you feel safe because you’re not bumping into a lot of people. Once you get to the concession stand, you can no longer mix and match your drinks or Icee; but instead, you now must inform the worker of your drink of choice. You can still get your pretzels, nachos, hot dogs, boxed Ice cream and bottled water; everything else you must ask for.

Once you’re in the theater, there are wipes if you want to make sure its extra clean and people are asked to take their garbage with them when the movie is over to minimize the extra time it takes to clean the seats and the floor. I did notice on my first trip to the theater that even the carpet was cleaner. While seated in your assigned seat, there is no one at least 4 or 5 seats away from you.

I appreciate the extra precautions, even in the restroom that movie theaters are taking to make sure their patrons are safe. So, with all the holiday weekends coming up, take the time out and go to the movie theater and enjoy the movies that you love the way they were meant to be seen, on the big screen.

Will you be going back to the movie theaters? Do you think they are doing enough to keep you and your family safe? Let’s talk about it!
